Clients are the losers in phishing attacks
Sofia. The ever so frequent phishing attacks targeting Bulgarian banks are capable of forcing a lot of clients to forget about e-banking altogether, Trud daily reads. Phishing is a type of fraud using e-mails which redirect customers to a fake webpage where they have to input their personal data, passwords, bank accounts, etc. This is why Bulgarian banks have been urging clients to be more diligent when opening such e-mails. Most financial institutions constantly remind clients that banks never request personal data and passwords to be sent via e-mail.
Postbank representatives explain that their e-banking platform was attacked just a couple of days after its official opening. However, the institution was prepared for this, having developed a phishing attacks reaction procedure back in 2010-2011. Postbank also has an Anti-fishing e-mail group to which clients can forward any suspicious e-mails. Phishing attempts can also be reported in any office of the bank or by phoning its call centre. According to Postbank representatives, no client of theirs has so far suffered losses resulting from a phishing attack.
In a separate list, Trud daily provides some tips which could be used to minimise the risk from phishing. Customers are advised to use only licensed software, to update their antivirus software as frequently as possible, and to use special hardware devices protecting the digital certificate required for e-banking.
