FREE STATE – A 39-year old bookkeeper from Bloemfontein is expected to appear in the Commercial Crime Court later this month after she was served with court summonses on Wednesday in connection with alleged tax evasion.
It is alleged that for the period from 2014 to 2017, the bookkeeper submitted false tax returns on behalf of several individuals to the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
The case was brought to the attention of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for a probe which revealed the elaborate scheme that resulted in the receiver of revenue losing a yet to be quantified amount of money to the tune of thousands of rands.
The suspect is set to appear in court on 30 September 2020, to face several counts of fraud in Contravention of the Tax Administration Act.
