In a coordinated breakthrough, members of the Parkweg Tactical Response Team (TRT) have arrested two additional suspects, aged 30 and 36, in connection with a fraudulent house sale scam in Bloemfontein. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to four, following the earlier apprehension of two other suspects.
The arrests stem from a fraud case registered at Bayswater SAPS, where a female complainant was allegedly defrauded of R65 000 in a bogus property transaction. The victim reportedly paid the money at a rented flat in the Bloemfontein CBD, which was allegedly being used as a front office to facilitate fraudulent property deals.
The breakthrough came on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, when members of the Parkweg Tactical Response Team received a request for assistance from a Bayswater detective to trace the remaining suspects. Initial intelligence led officers to Edenburg before further information redirected the investigation back to Bloemfontein.
On Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at approximately 12:00, members followed up on additional leads and operationalised information that led them to premises in Phelindaba. Police were searching for a suspect who had allegedly impersonated a lawyer in order to facilitate the fraudulent sale.
A 36-year-old male suspect was successfully traced and arrested. Shortly thereafter, while police were processing the arrest, a 30-year-old male arrived at the Bayswater Police Station and handed himself over, indicating that he had learnt that the Tactical Response Team was looking for him.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to fraud. Investigations are continuing to determine whether the suspects may be linked to other similar property scams in the Bloemfontein area.
