A new phishing scam aiming to gain access to customers’ Netflix account and steal credit card details is landing in subscribers’ inboxes.
It’s just one of a variety of similar scams purporting to be from the streaming site in recent months.
While most people are accustomed to recognising emails claiming to be from their bank, any website or company can be targetted.
When the emails appear to be official, like the most recent one pictured here, such companies will never request personal information via email.
The email, from ‘Netflix noreply@netl.com’ says that the customer must update their payment method.
“We were unable to bill your membership for the current m?nth. To ensure that the service will not be interrupted, please update your payment meth?d,” it reads.
“To update your payment meth?d, click: Sign In to Netf?ix then you will be prompted to update your payment meth?d.”
Netflix provides comprehensive information on how to avoid phishing scams on their website.
In a statement Netflix says, “Phishing scams are, unfortunately, very common and often exploit well known brands.
“Internet users should always be cautious when they receive an email. More Netflix guidance for security is here: www.netflix.com/security“
You can also forward the suspect email to phishing@netflix.com.
