Bank customers beware.
Some Bank of America customers are receiving automated recordings or texts indicating that their debit card is locked, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said. To unlock it, customers are asked to provide their debit card numbers.
Don’t do it, the sheriff’s office advises, as it is “phishing,” an attempt to steal your personal financial information. On its website, Bank of America said other ways thieves might try to try to steal personal information include phony emails that request personal information such as pin or ATM numbers, or Social Security numbers, or requests to fill out customer service surveys in exchange for money or because a security upgrade “requires” it.
