SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) is warning members of the public not to fall for a phishing scam involving a fake letter from the AVA.
It posted a sample of the bogus letter on its Facebook page on Thursday (Sep 17). It asks recipients to renew their expiring dog licence and make payment of S$90 via PayPal via a web address. A tell-tale sign that the page is not authentic is the email address it is registered under: singov.ava@groupmail.com.
AVA said it is working with police on the matter and urged all recipients of the scam letter to report the letter to the authorities.
“If you have any information regarding this case, please assist the police in their investigation. Let’s work together to get to the bottom of this matter and apprehend the culprits!” AVA wrote.
Similar phishing emails requesting for payments and a fake AVA Facebook page also surfaced in August.
