Elias Muller, the acting spokesperson for Forum 4 Service Delivery in the Lekwa Teemane local municipality (which comprises of Bloemhof and Christiana in the North West) has laid corruption and fraud charges against African National Congress (ANC) Youth League President, Collen Maine and all Lekwa Teemane municipal councillors.
Forum 4 Service Delivery believes Mgengo’s appointment was unlawful as he did not meet all the minimum requirements.
Mgengo resigned last week following the intervention by the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Fenny Gaolaolwe.
Muller says: “I have laid charges against Mr Collen Maine who was the former MEC for Local Government in the North West province for unlawfully seconding the former municipal manager Mr Ndoda Mgengo whose secondment did not comply with the municipal systems act and regulations. I have also opened charges against all councillors who supported Mr Mgengo’s appointment last year in March.”
Spokesperson for the North West police, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwaabone has confirmed that criminal charges have been laid at the Bloemhof police station.
“We can confirm that a case has been opened in terms of prevention and combating of corrupt activities act. At this stage is still under investigation and we cannot at this stage comment about the merits of the case. We will allow preliminary investigations to take place.”
