Albany County officials say there is a possible fraud investigation happening with hundreds of county employees at risk.
ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- Albany County leaders said hundreds of county workers may be caught up in a financial fraud case tied to a deferred compensation company.
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy and District Attorney Lee Kindlon said county employees who joined a deferred compensation program recently learned the company holding their investments appears to have shut down operations.
They said the issue may also affect thousands of other New Yorkers who work for other municipalities or school districts. County leaders said an investigation is underway and they want to determine whether any money is at risk because of fraudulent activity.
