Better security training within organisations could help to protect against phishing attacks if the results of a new survey are anything to go by.
According to research carried out by security specialist PhishMe, more than a quarter of top executives have fallen foul of these attacks in the last year.
A third of security professionals said phishing emails are being sent to their staff constantly, because company anti-spam filters are unable to block them.
Nearly one in four said phishing messages are found in company inboxes several times a day.
Despite the relentlessness of these attacks, it seems training in how to spot and deal with them is lacking in many organisations.
Half of those surveyed said training is offered to staff just once a year, while nine per cent said their firm has no security training in place at all.
“This survey demonstrates with great clarity that phishing attacks are getting through to end users with alarming regularity, yet most organisations don’t train their users on what the most current attacks look like or how to react to them,” said PhishMe’s chief technology officer Aaron Higbee.
