WARNING – Postbank Scam

Post a Fraud Alert:

Pretoria – Postbank has warned its customers about a scam in which customers are misled to disclose their banking and other personal information to parties which use it to generate fraudulent debit orders from their accounts.

“It has come to our attention that Postbank customers have been receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be Postbank employees.

“They then pretend to offer insurance policies such as road or life cover as a pretext to ask for ID numbers, account numbers and other personal information to set up fraudulent debit orders,” said Postbank’s acting Managing Director Shaheen Adams.

Adams has urged customers not to provide any bank account and other personal information such as ID numbers to third parties claiming to be calling from Postbank.

Postbank wants its customers to know that it will never contact customers and request account details such as an account number and pin or any other personal details such as ID numbers of customers, over the phone.

Postbank does not call customers using a cell number.

Furthermore, Postbank does not sign up customers for products over the phone, Postbank products are currently offered at the Post Office branches only.

Postbank customers can contact 0800 53 54 55 if they are uncertain of how to respond to a telephone call regarding its services. –
