2017 International Fraud Awareness Week

Fraud Alert:

The International Fraud Awareness Week 2017 has been declared by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners as taking place from 12 to 18 November 2017.

Initiatives Done by Supporters of International Fraud Week 2016 include:

  • The ACFE Tampa Bay Chapter coordinated with County Commissioner Lesley “Les” Miller Jr. to receive a Hillsborough County Proclamation recognizing International Fraud Awareness Week and the Chapter’s 24th year of providing community service in fraud awareness, prevention and detection.
  • Region of Peel, Ontario employees enjoyed the Fraud Week displays from different departments.
  • Meals on Wheels in San Diego County included place mats with fraud alert information with meals delivered during the week.
  • The Region of Peel, Ontario Internal Audit Division hosted 2016 Fraud Awareness events that were well attended by staff. This is the second year with various multidisciplinary teams participating with fraud prevention and detection displays. Internal Audit, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Corporate Reporting, PCards, Peel Regional Police and Human Services were on hand to discuss the work they do to prevent and detect fraud. Three new displays were added this year from Human Resources, Service Innovation and Information Technology and Loss Management and Insurance Services.
  • Oxfam Great Britain launched a poster campaign, as well as giving a lunch time talk on nepotism, sharing lessons learned from role play exercises and case studies.
  • The ACFE Tampa Bay Chapter and County Commissioner Les Miller Jr. with their county proclamation.
    Orange developed a company-wide communication strategy including adding a Fraud Week banner to their email signature, a dedicated Fraud Week page on their intranet, and an article in their group leaders newsletter about Fraud Week. They also hosted some events at their Paris offices and launched a new fraud e-learning module.
  • General Mills, Inc. hosted a live presentation featuring a convicted fraudster for employees, which was also be broadcast globally to all employees through an internal Video On Demand service. They also partnered with Caribou Coffee to provide daily discount chalkboard trivia questions about fraud-related topics each day of fraud awareness week. Also, they used fraud awareness stickers on coffee cup lids during the week.
